Current, new cable TV channel
Al Gore is launching a new cable TV channel in August called Current. The channels target audience is 18 to 34 year olds. The idea here; to blend news, culture and viewer-produced video. Gore stated, "We're about empowering this generation...to engage in the dialogue of democracy and tell the story of what's going on in their lives in the dominant media of our time." The strategy behind this ground breaking channel is to have the viewer's supply their own video content and then using the Current website editing tools to produce them. It should be interesting to see how all this works. If I hear of anymore info about this channel I'll blog it. FYI- Gore claims " It is not in any way ideological, much less partisan point of veiw in any respect. It will have the point of veiw of the young generation." This may be some refreshing TV for a change?

Jack Kerouac's Birthday

If you don't know who Jack Kerouac is he is an author of the Beat Generation. He was a man who travelled to the beat of a different drum. Some of his works are: On the Road (most popular book), Dharma Bums, Lonesome Traveler, Mexico City Blues... Check him out, he has some pretty incredible things to say.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants coming soon!
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (preview here) is coming to the big screen june 3rd. If you haven't read the book yet, maybe you should. The Library carries three copies, and they seem to be checked out often!!! Don't forget you can reserve a copy.

Heads-Up On Teen Identity Theft
The federal government's Consumer Sentinel fraud database has reported 29 percent of the total identity theft complaints recieved last year were from people age 18 to 29 years old.
Rule #1: Keep personal information locked up, especially if you have many friends visiting. ex. cell and credit card bills.
Rule #2: Watch your wallet
Rule #3: Never carry your social security card around
Rule #4: Always read a Web site's privacy policy before you give out personal info. online.
Rule #5: Download firewalls and anti spyware often.
Rule #6: You may want to pull a copy of your credit report. After March 1st, a new federal law will allow everyone to get a free copy of their credit report every year. For more info. visit www.ftc.gov
